Realization of LED lighting in Ziko Pharmacy network

The ZIKO company does not need an opening speech. Established in 2005 in Krakow, it currently operates as a network of ZIKO Apteka pharmacies and ZIKO Dermo dermocosmetic points, and also runs an online pharmacy e-ZikoApteka.pl. Over the years of developing its operations and thanks to a well-thought-out strategy, there are currently over 120 pharmacies in ten provinces – mainly in southern, central and western Poland. In addition, there are 40 ZIKO Dermo points throughout the country.

Ultimately, the ZIKO brand is to be present throughout the country, which will make it the largest family company on the pharmacy market with 100% Polish capital. The beginning of our cooperation and the first implementation dates back to May 2013. Since that time, we have equipped more than 100 ZIKO Apteka outlets with LED lighting.

Implementation

The main goal in the implementation of lighting in ZIKO pharmacies was to develop a lighting system characterized by pure white, strong light, which exposes products and brightens the premises but without the dazzle effect. Applied lighting makes the premises comfortable for the eyes and state of being. To achieve such effects, it is extremely important to choose lamps with appropriate parameters such as light colour, light scattering, colour rendering and power. Parameters required for the sales room differ from parameters required for the pharmacy back-up facilities.

We believe that our product offer proved to be interesting enough that it resulted in the creation of long-term cooperation with mutual benefits. Cooperation is also special because it is a confirmation of all theses regarding the efficiency and quality of LED lighting products. This confirmation is expressed not in slogans and catchwords, but in the empirically obtained information, e.g. in the number of hours of light and saved kWh of energy. For this reason, it is worth to more closely and broadly characterize our cooperation to better understand the significance of investing in LED lighting.

Dialux project:

Often, in order to select the best lighting for a given premises, we use the Duialux designing software. Thanks to this we have been able to determine which products work best. Projects of this type ensure the selection of the best light sources not only in technical but also visual terms

The products implemented in the network of ZIKO pharmacies are mainly LED panels providing basic, diffused light and track reflectors and directional ceiling luminaires responsible for the light emphasizing and displaying products in showcases and shop windows. The quality and aesthetics of these products as well as the technical parameters turned out to be the origin of our cooperation. Since then, our company and the ZIKO network of pharmacies have been experiencing dynamic growth, which also directly affects LED lighting delivered, which evolved from lower power of luminaires and spotlights, to LED panels, COB reflectors, directional luminaires and specialized linear recessed/flush mounted lights, usually used for lighting cash desks.

The number of pharmacy and drugstore outlets of the ZIKO company required the selection of products that not only meet specific technical parameters, but also maintain repeatability and the possibility of scaling depending on the dimensions of the premises. This is a fairly important element in building a design standard in every commercial network. Of course, in the process of development and opening new ZIKO outlets, new needs often arose, which we had to meet when designing our products having in mind certain technical parameters. For example, we are currently aiming to achieve more than 1,300 lux in the sales room, but with a very low UGR d <0.19 and a high CRI > 85.

As mentioned before, the number of products used was significant and included various product categories. All the more you should devote some space to the products that can be found in almost every ZIKO pharmacy.

Since we are talking about a commercial and service premises, and pharmacies undoubtedly can be counted among them, then the issue of proper directional lighting is crucial. Here, of course, rail lighting systems come to the fore. In ZIKO pharmacies, a single-phase system is used to which reflectors of different wattage are mounted. Greenie 1-phase LED Track Light 30W is a particularly popular model. Due to the dominant white colour in the decor of the pharmacy, we used 4000K spotlights in most cases. Greenie COB 30W track light reflectors are products characterized by the above-mentioned colour rendering index CRI> 85. Thanks to this, the white colour dominant in ZIKO premises it is not distorted in reception. The light harmonizes perfectly with the interior of the pharmacy, and at the same time properly emphasizes the display.

This parameter is crucial and it is important that our other products are able to keep it. Let’s look at products from the linear lighting segment. In ZIKO’s implementations, we used suspended linear luminaires from the Boston series (1m, 15W version) and recessed profiles (1m, 37W version) ideal for suspended ceilings. It is a modern linear system, usually combined of several luminaires forming lines of light. Frosted covers properly diffuse the light, providing a soft, cosy effect, and the natural colour (4000-4500K) once again perfectly matches the white, modern interior of each pharmacy.
