Sanatorium “Augustów” in Poland

The implementation consisted of a comprehensive service of selecting lighting products for the newly built part of the Augustów sanatorium. The facility in Augustów is very well known in the country and enjoys a good reputation among visitors. Therefore, in 2015, the expansion of the facility began, as a result of which the existing hotel area grew and a completely new hotel and recreation as well as recreation and treatment facility was erected. As a result, the Sanatorium in Augustów increased its area almost twice. The new hotel facility offers 50 beds, which together with the existing part gives a total of 270. At the same time, the entire project was the largest investment in Augustów and the surrounding area for years.

We have carried out the project together with the architectural company R-Design, with which we have already carried out several investments in the HoReCa industry. It is worth mentioning, for example, the modernization at the Mazurski Raj hotel,, although of course we also cooperate in other fields.

The action plan was simple – the R-Design company developed the design and we provided LED lighting. The scale of extension provided many possibilities due to the number of guest rooms, the purpose of the rooms and the purpose of the entire investment. It should be emphasized that the emergence of new parts in the spa has helped to obtain the status of an innovative 3-star hotel adapted for long-term stay with a rich treatment base, as well as wellness and recreation treatments. LED lighting plays a prominent role in this case as it undoubtedly has a huge impact on the comfort of people staying in a given place.

Light sources, in addition to meeting lighting standards, must be environmentally friendly and must not have a negative impact on patients. As already mentioned, the investment potential required the use of many types of products from several segments, suitably selected for the character of a given room. This is best illustrated by the descriptions of examples of the use of specific products in specific rooms.

At the beginning, we would like to present probably one of the most often visited places in every spa, which is the swimming pool.

Illumination of the pool –LED HighBay Linear industrial lamps based on Philips diodes. It is a product from the category of linear lighting, dedicated to rooms with a large area and height, often requiring higher protection class. The lamps can be suspended or surface-mounted – that’s how they were installed in the Sanatorium in Augustów. Here, it is worth emphasizing the certain utilitarianism of the Greenie HighBay LED Linear lighting system, in terms of lighting parameters that successfully illuminate storage halls, as well as a swimming pool in a popular spa.

Anyway, linear lighting was more widely used in Augustów Sanatorium. This is not surprising, it is difficult to imagine any investment without this type of solution, especially since linear systems have a wide range of assembly and adaptation possibilities. Profiles used in the spa are the Greenie LED Agat Slim. Profiles were mounted on strands or recessed. An example of assembly can be seen in the picture in the lobby or at the reception and in the restaurant, i.e. in customer service areas, in offices and generally in places where larger groups of spa guests reside.

LED lighting in natural colour has also been used in decorative wall lamps and suspended luminaires, in which in most cases LED bulbs were installed. It is worth mentioning here suspended lamps made of feathers. They also use Greenie LED bulbs in a natural colour.

The aforementioned lamps with LED bulbs perfectly fit into the modern interior style and make an amazing impression on guests visiting the Augustów Spa. This is a great example of how important is the adequate indoor lighting, which has long gone beyond the classic chandeliers or wall brackets.

Another place worth attention is the guest rooms and all the more intimate places that stimulate a sense of relaxation and comfort. Due to their specific character, a warm white colour (2800-3200K) was used there. For example, products used in hotel rooms are mainly flush-mounted plafonds and surface-mounted panels. Particularly surface-mounted round LED Greenie Solid 30W plafonds and round recessed LED 18W plafonds. Bulbs in warm colour were also mounted in lamp brackets placed near beds.

Warm light is a light that is very well connoted because it resembles old type bulbs, to which almost everyone is accustomed since childhood. It is characterized by a slightly yellow luminescence that right away makes the rooms seem to be cosier. Warm light, like other colours, has its adherents and opponents, but there is no doubt that it works perfectly in the guest rooms in the spa and in designer lamps. Thus, we prove once again that it is the same element of interior design as furniture or various types of accessories.

Such a large investment could not be completed without LED strips. The plasticity and multifunctionality of LED strips allows them to be assembled in any place and in various forms of development. In the corridors, the Greenie LED strip was installed in the aluminium profiles, with 60 smd5050 diodes per one running meter and wattage of 14.4 W/rm in warm colour. The strips were also used in mirrors installed in bathrooms. Here, on the other hand, we decided to install the LED strip with 60 diodes, smd3528, 4.8 W/rm and of course in a neutral colour.

LED strips mounted in mirrors are an increasingly popular solution for bathroom lighting, which are places with specific conditions – firstly, there is usually no window in them, and secondly, it is necessary to use moisture-resistant and safe lighting. The use of LED strips operating under 12V voltage and having the IP65 waterproof rating meets the basic lighting requirements of such places. In the corridors, there are strips hidden in profiles with frosted covers, thanks to which the light is very well diffused, no diodes are visible, and the light line maintains its continuity.

In addition to the reception, hall or swimming pool and guest rooms with bathrooms, LED lighting has also been used in functional rooms in line with the spa activity profile. This is, of course, a fitness room, treatment and rehabilitation rooms. In the sanatorium you can use the rehabilitation program consisting of detailed medical examinations, consultations of specialist doctors and over 50 types of professional treatments. Flush mounted PLS series LED panels with dimensions of 120x30cm and 45W power were used.

The PLS series panels are most often selected for bureaus or offices, but as you can see in the picture above – their utilization can be much wider. It is a product that can be easily and quickly installed in Armstrong type suspended ceilings. The frosted cover provides the perfect light distribution and guarantees uniform illumination of the entire panel surface. Thanks to this type of light sources fits perfectly into white ceilings, does not stand out in the room, but fulfils its main role.

PLS panels are most often chosen for offices, but as you can see from the photos above, their use may be much broader. This is a product that can be easily and quickly installed in Armstrong suspended ceilings. The matt shutter provides the perfect light distribution and ensures even illumination of the entire panel surface.

In the restaurant part, LED bulbs from the Candle series were used, and this time they were put into classic chandeliers reminiscent of chandeliers from previous ages. Candle bulbs are so-called “candle” bulbs which in their shape resemble the flame of a candle. They usually have a warm colour temperature, however, due to the decor of the rooms, in this case the natural colour was used.

From the restaurant part, we go to the glazed greenhouse, from which you can see the forest surrounding sanatorium, the orangery looks very cosy. In the greenhouse we used garlands with LED bulbs – a simple yet interesting solution, which fits a light material roofing of this place.

The exclusive use of LED lighting products in the whole building was aimed at achieving a modern innovative character of the interior, which was fully implemented. In addition, there are many general benefits, the LED sources are famous of, especially in such a large facility as the Sanatorium in Augustów. First of all, energy consumption savings up to 80%, extended lifetime, limited failure rate not requiring frequent repairs and maintenance. All this means that the revitalized complex in Augustów emphasized its ecological character.
