Best Western Old Town Hotel in Krakow

The modernization of lighting at the Best Western Old Town Hotel is the next stage of the dynamically developing cooperation between Greenie Polska and the R-Design architectural studio. It is also another large investment in the HoReCa segment following the implementation at the Mazurski Raj hotel and Spa and Sanatorium in Augustów.

The Best Western Old Town Hotel is often chosen by tourists because of its extremely convenient location, although not only for this reason, obviously. The hotel offers 92 fully equipped rooms, a conference room and a Monopol restaurant

The division of tasks in this implementation was typical – the R-Design company provided the design and our company supplied the lighting products. The replacement of lighting in the hotel was part of a thorough modernization of the entire interior. After renovation, the stylistics of the hotel gained a definitely modern design decorated with bold colours, therefore the lighting design and the products themselves had to fit the overall concept.

In order to verify the amount of light we developed a professional LED lighting design using the Dialux software. A design like this takes into account two main roles of lighting – a decorative and a lighting role. Our company is able to adapt Greenie brand lighting to every room and building, and our projects are tailored to the specific requirements of the most demanding customers, which is perfectly demonstrated by the example of the hotel in Krakow. Below, you can see a fragment of the design made for Best Western Old Town.

The lighting category that comes to the fore is the segment of LED linear lighting products – a very popular and proven way to illuminate rooms in hotels and similar centers. Two specific products were used: Greenie Linear LED Linea PRO and Greenie Professional LED fluorescent lamps.

Thanks to both products, light lines were created that not only perfectly illuminate the hotel rooms, but also have a great impact on their decor.

The lighting category, which comes to the forefront, is the segment of LED linear lighting products – a very popular and proven method to illuminate rooms in hotels and similar facilities. Two specific products have been used: Greenie LED Linea PRO linear lighting fitting and  Greenie Professional LED tubes.

Those two products enabled to create light lines that not only perfectly illuminate the hotel’s rooms, but also significantly affect their decor.

The advantage of the linear systems is their high utilitarianism and the possibility to create almost any sets of segments. Both products have a neutral white colour of lighting: 4000-4500K with a high CRI colour rendering index. Thanks to this, the illuminated colours are not distorted, which was quite important in the new design of the hotel.

Linea Pro was installed in the restaurant and conference room. The standard luminaires lengths are 60 and 120 cm. Thanks to the dedicated accessories: straight connectors, angular connectors, suspension cables, you can get the diagrams visible in the pictures of the hotel restaurant, for instance.

Greenie Professional LED lamps illuminate the corridors. They are finished with specially manufactured joints used for combining several lamps into longer sections and hanging them directly on the cables without using lighting fittings. The advantage of this solution, in addition to the interesting aesthetics, is also greater light efficiency – there are no light losses on the lighting fitting. This type of solution is a great alternative to complete linear lighting fittings.

In addition to the linear system, the products from other categories were implemented in the Best Western Old Town Hotel. In the rooms and in the corridors between the rooms we have mounted Greenie Solid round surface mounted 30W and 18W plafonds, also in the neutral colour 4000-4500K which blends into the overall design of the hotel

In addition, we equipped the hotel rooms with some other necessary products: desk lamps, bed-side night-lights. In general, the Krakow hotel has a whole range of finishing and decorative products, such as wall lights in the corridors, bulbs in luminaires, and illuminated mirrors in the bathrooms built with the use of Greenie strip. More detailed presentation of all of the above products is provided in further part of this article.

We used the lamp brackets mounted on the headboards, which were specially designed and manufactured for the needs of the Western Old Town Hotel. They are made of high quality aluminium and serve as bedside lamps, however, unlike traditional night lamps, you can freely adjust their height and position. They are installed directly next to the beds in the hotel rooms. In addition, it should be noted that they have been perfectly suited to the interior design of a hotel room.

The lamp brackets mounted on the headboards is an example of a product that was created from scratch. Being a LED lighting manufacturer, we are able to adapt the light sources to the individual needs of each of our clients. This model of lamps is not included in our regular offer – it was manufactured especially for the hotel in Krakow.

The architectural studio R-Design, which played the leading role as far as the design issues are concerned and decided about the design of the rooms, closely cooperated with us closely, so we managed to work out an ideal combination of interiors with the LED lighting.

Another product that was found useful in the hotel is the LED strip. The best example of its use is the bar, where the strip brought elegance and style, and also greatly exposed alcohol articles. The strip was installed under the bar glass pane, where the alcohols are stored, thanks to which it is completely invisible and the light is distributed evenly.

We always care about the smallest details such as, for example, in the case of finishing of mirrors, illuminated with the LED strip – just like the bar. The LED strip at the mirrors in the hotel bathrooms provides adequate lighting, and besides, it serves as a decorative element. The bathrooms are also fitted with linear ceiling luminaires. To sum up – as we mentioned at the beginning, LED linear lighting is the leader in this implementation.

An unusual product that deserves attention are the Puff Buff Orca designer chandeliers made of soft PVC in a semi-matt finish. These are the lamps in which the lampshade is filled with air, so before they are installed, they should be inflated

We used lamps to illuminate the bar, and the light source in this case are, of course, Greenie LED bulbs, and – more precisely – Corn Like E27 bulbs. This extremely unusual solution fits perfectly into the modern design of the entire hotel, the interior of which is really surprising. Simple, black and white rooms with one dominant intense colour is an unusual solution for a place located in the very centre of Krakow Old Town. Fortunately, it is appreciated not only by us but by the hotel guests, as well.

The overall effect is completely in line with the project’s assumptions. The main objective – modern design – has been achieved thanks to the LED products of our Greenie brand. The achieved design is one thing, the second issue is benefiting from lower energy consumption – in the case of LED technology it is even up to 70-80%. This is an important issue especially in the case of large investments, such as Best Western Old Town, which in fact makes the investment paying off itself in a long run.

Before the implementation of Greenie LED lighting in the BEST WESTERN hotel, the energy consumption was 71131 kWh, after modernization we achieved a satisfactory result – 13432 kWh, which means that at an average electricity rate, we generated savings of 20,000 PLN, which translates to 13 months return on investment (ROI).
